UAAP 77 Courtside Reporter Profile: Jeanine Tsoi (De La Salle University)

By Josiah Albelda Posted Jul 10th 2014

Jeanine Tsoi is De La Salle University's new courtside reporter for UAAP Season 77.

De La Salle University's Jeanine Tsoi would only laugh about the moment she learned she was going to be the Green Archers' new courtside reporter.

By the time Tsoi received news, she and her family were at the airport to attend a burial. It turned everyone crazy.

"The moment I heard the news, we were at the airport. ABS-CBN said the email will be sent around 30 minutes," she relayed. "I was asking my mom to pray for the last minute, and nagccountdown pa sila."

And when the clock hit zero, the celebration began.

"It was good news. It was a crying moment but a happy moment as well," Tsoi added. "It was nice because family was there to witness it."

Now stepping into a world very different from her usual field, the Industrial Management Engineering major from Taft Avenue said she must learn everything in no time.

"Before auditions, I already weighed down my strengths and weaknesses. I have to tighten things," she said.

It was a tough audition process for Tsoi, but with a little help from the internet and her uncle who is a high school basketball coach, she powered through and earned the spot.

"I worked hard despite not being in the same field and same course," she said. "I may not be the most knowledgeable but probably it is my personality and how I take things in a bubbly manner."

With just days before the season kicks off, Tsoi - who also models for magazines and TV shows - promises to turn the nervousness into excitement when the action begins.

"The nerves will kick in, but we have to respond to that. I am excited to represent my alma mater. My passion will show." - with reports from Levi Verora
