By Anton Roxas Posted Sep 14th 2013

The University of Sto. Tomas blew away the University of the Philippines 84-62 in the UAAP Season 76 Women’s basketball tournament on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Lore Rivera led the way for UST with 17 points, 17 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. She was aptly supported by Kim Reyes and Maica Cortes who contributed 17 points each as well.

With the win, the Tigresses moved up to third place in the team standings at 8-6. UP finished the elimination round with a 6-8 win-loss card.

In the second game, Ateneo de Manila University shocked the University of the East, winning 65-50 to notch its maiden victory of the season. However, the Lady Eagles remained last in the standings with an 1-12 record while the Lady Warriors absorbed their eleventh defeat of the tournament against 2 wins.

Defending champion Far Eastern University, who recently had 5 games forfeited because one of their players, Vangie Soriano went against league rules and participated in a Sunday Club while the tournament was ongoing. Because of this development, the Lady Tamaraws are currently at 7-7 with their Final Four hopes depending on the outcome of Adamson University’s (7-6) game against Ateneo.

If the Lady Falcons defeat the Lady Eagles, FEU will be out of the Final Four. However, if Ateneo defeats Adamson, there will be a playoff between the Lady Falcons and the Lady Tamaraws for fourth place.
