NU demolishes UPIS, UST crushes Adamson

NU and UST trounced their respective foes to remain unbeaten in the Juniors basketball tournament of UAAP Season 76.

Lanky 6’4” Center John Cauilan exploded for 25 points as National University overwhelmed the University of the Philippines Integrated School 93-65 in the UAAP Season 75 Juniors basketball tournament on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

The Bullpups dominated the boards, 55-26, and tallied 18 points on the fastbreak. Former Under-16 National team player Hubert Cani contributed 12 points and 5 assists for the Bullpups while Jonas Go added 11 points and 7 rebounds.

UPIS had three players in double-digits as Raymart Sablan, Joshua General and Diego Dario all contributed 14 points apiece for the Junior Maroons, who were actually only trailing by 6 points with over six minutes to play before NU pulled away.

NU remained unbeaten with a 2-0 record while UPIS fell to 0-2.

In the second game, the University of Sto. Tomas blew out Adamson University 84-69. The Tiger Cubs limited the Baby Falcons to just 9 points in the opening quarter to give them an early 19 point advantage.

Paulo Corre led the way for UST with a double-double performance of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Aaron Reyes also made his presence felt for the Tiger Cubs as he also finished with a double-double scoring 14 points and grabbing 16 rebounds.

Allan Casiňo topscored for Adamson with 17 markers.

UST remained unbeaten with its second win in as many games as Adamson remained winless after two outings.

While these two games took place at the Araneta Coliseum, there were also two other games in the UAAP Season 76 Juniors basketball tournament that took place on the same day at the Blue Eagle Gym inside the Ateneo de Manila University Campus.

Renzo Subido unleashed a 32 point performance to lead De La Salle-Zobel to a dominating 79-45 victory over Adamson University.

With the win, the Junior Archers remained unbeated with a 3-0 record while the Junior Warriors suffered their second straight setback for a 1-2 win-loss card.

The fourth and final Juniors matchup saw the defending champion Far Eastern University edge Ateneo de Manila University in overtime, 82-78.

Marvin Lee had a breakout performance as he topscored for the Baby Tamaraws with 17 points.

Thirdy Ravena led the Blue Eaglets with 27 points in a losing effort.

FEU notched its first win of season to improve to 1-2 while Ateneo fell to 1-2.

The UAAP Season 76 Juniors basketball tournament resumes on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at the Mall of Asia Arena as UPIS (0-2) faces off against Adamson University (0-2) at 8:00 A.M.. In the second game, two undefeated teams in the tournament lock horns as NU (2-0) takes on UST (2-0) at 10 a.m.
