How about a sweep?
Far Eastern University guns for a first-round sweep when it takes on heartbroken Adamson University in the 76th UAAP men's basketball tournament at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Riding on the crest of an impressive six-game winning run, the Tamaraws lock horns with a Soaring Falcons crew coming off a disappointing loss to De La Salle University last Wednesday.
Adamson came back from a huge lead in the fourth period against the Green Archers, but got stopped on their tracks by a crucial and controversial call that resulted into three converted free-throws for La Salle and the eventual six-game suspension of the referee who called it.
Against FEU, the Falcons would have to quickly forget about that heartbreaking defeat, especially with the Tamaraws' three-headed backcourt dragon of Terrence Romeo, RR Garcia and Mike Tolomia staring at them.
The Morayta-based squad's troika of dynamic guards had a full display of their skills against University of Santo Tomas last Sunday, combining for 48 points, 14 rebounds and 14 assists as they defeated the Growling Tigers.
Impressive as that showing may be, FEU coach Nash Racela is still looking for consistency from his wards.
"It's getting there," Racela said. "I think it's getting better. It's a work in progress."
While Adamson has to deal with the Tamaraws' guards, the league-leaders would have their hands full against the Falcons' bigs.
Ingrid Sewa is due for a big game after struggling through his last three since sustaining a shoulder injury against Ateneo de Manila University.
After norming 14.3 points and 10.3 rebounds in his first three outings, Sewa has only posted 5.0 points and 10.3 boards, taking a dip in his shot attempts while also not crashing the offensive boards enough.
Against a doughnut team like FEU, he would have the chances to bounce back.
The game will air live on Studio 23, BALLS HD 167, iwantv.com.ph and uaapsports.tv with a replay on the same day at 9 p.m. on BALLS SkyCable channel 34/Destiny cable channel 36.
