Adamson out to settle score vs La Salle

By Josiah Albelda Posted Aug 14th 2013

Ingrid Sewa and the Adamson Soaring Falcons look to avenge a controversial first round setback against the De La Salle Green Archers.

Their gallant comeback bid foiled the last time out, Adamson University hopes to complete an upset of De La Salle University this time when the two collide in the 76th UAAP men's basketball tournament Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Soaring Falcons clawed themselves back into the game after trailing by double digits, but their efforts fell short after Gian Abrigo was called for a crucial unsportsmanlike foul with less than 20 seconds left.

The foul and the ensuing free-throws gave the Green Archers enough wiggle room to pull off the escape, but Francisco Olivar, the referee who called the technical foul, was suspended by the league for six game days.

"One of the basic principles of the UAAP Board is to have the games decided by the players and not by the referees," said tournament commissioner Chito Loyzaga said in a statement.

La Salle would have the chance to erase all doubts about their controversial win, one that saw them shine bright in the free-throw line after struggling from the same spot in their prior losses.

On the other hand, Adamson would get the opportunity to exact vengeance while also trying to move up the standings in what has been an ultra-tight competition so far.

The game will air live on Studio 23, BALLS HD 167, uaapsports.tv and iwantv.com.ph with a same day replay at 9 p.m. on BALLS SkyCable channel 34 or Destiny Cable channel 36.
