The second round of eliminations in the Juniors basketball tournament of UAAP Season 76 began on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at the Blue Eagle gym inside the Ateneo de Manila University campus in Quezon City with all four teams seeing action on the same day.
But, the spotlight was focused on the University of the Philippines’ matchup against the University of Sto. Tomas as Jozhua General suited up anew for the Junior Maroons. A Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) was secured from the Quezon City Regional Trial Court allowing General, who was previously deemed ineligible to play by the UAAP board, to make his return.
Because of this development, UPIS also got back its 89-87 quadruple overtime win over Adamson University which occurred on July 14, 2013.
With General back in the lineup, UPIS pulled off a pulsating 73-71 win over UST. Crafty point guard Diego Dario uncorked a game-high 27 points while General, who started the contest, contributed 2 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists for the Junior Maroons.
UPIS improved to 2-7 while UST dropped to 3-5.
Adamson University finally scored a win on the playing court as it beat the University of the East 70-57 in the first game.
The Baby Falcons are now at 1-7 as the Junior Warriors fell to 3-5.
Leading MVP candidate Thirdy Ravena dropped 22 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the Ateneo Blue Eaglets to a 79-69 victory over defending champion Far Eastern University-Diliman.
Big man Mike Nieto also made an impact with his 20 point, 13 rebound double-double performance.
JJ Domingo paced the Baby Tamaraws with 24 points and 10 rebounds in a losing effort.
Ateneo extended their win streak to 4 games and in the process, improved their record to 6-2 while FEU-Diliman fell to .500 at 4-4.
In the fourth and final game, National University swept their season series against De La Salle-Zobel, dealing the Junior Archers a 85-48 thrashing.
NU remained unbeaten at 8-0 while DLSZ suffered their third defeat of the season for a 5-3 win-loss card.
