Far Eastern University bounced back from its first loss of the UAAP Season 76 women’s basketball tournament by outlasting a pesky Adamson University, 50-45, on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.
FEU limited Adamson to just three points in the first period but failed to pull away as the Lady Tamaraws only mustered 13 points of their own. The Lady Falcons clawed their way back in the second quarter thanks to Jinky Balasta’s timely shots and poor shooting from the Lady Tamaraws.
Camille Sambille led the Lady Tamaraws with 16 points and 11 boards while Vangie Soriano and Marites Albano added 15 and 10 points each. Balasta and Jesusa Avilla each had 10 for the Lady Falcons.
FEU improved to 9-1, while Adamson fell to 3-6
FEU coach Allan Albano is happy that his team recovered in time to get the win, but admitted being hungover from their loss against the University of Santo Tomas.
“Bumagsak yung morale namin dun sa talo. Nasanay sila na laging panalo kaya mahirap iparamdam na isang talo lang yun. Buti na lang pinakita ulit nila yung refusal to lose kaya kami nag-bounceback, “ he said.
Albano commended Adamson for its gritty play and said that the tough match, like the game against UST, showed that FEU needs to improve its execution.
“Smarter play pa. Kailangan pa naming gawin yun,” he said.
In the first game, the De La Salle University defeated National University, 77-69, to avenge its first round loss. La Salle improved to 6-3 but remained at third place, while NU is still at second with an 8-2 record.
