National University got the better of Far Eastern University, prevailing 66-63 in their second round matchup in the UAAP Season 76 Women’s basketball tournament on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Starting center Anne Gupilan converted on a tough bank shot with 7.6 seconds remaining in the game to put NU ahead 66-63, preserving the victory. Gupilan finished with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists.
NU matched the 12-2 record of the defending champions, however, because FEU has a higher winning margin against the Lady Bulldogs, (FEU d. NU in the 1st round: 87-83) the Lady Tamaraws will hold the number one position while NU will finish at second place going into the Final Four.
In the second game, Adamson University kept its Final Four hopes afloat by stunning De La Salle University, 54-52.
The Lady Archers had several chances to tie the game in the last two minutes but were unable to manufacture baskets. DLSU’s leading scorer Ara Abaca only managed to score 4 points as she was hampered by flu-like symptoms.
DLSU dropped its third game of the season but already locked up third place with 9 wins.
Adamson (6-7) and the University of Sto. Tomas (7-6) are the two remaining teams battling for the last slot in the Final Four.
The Lady Falcons will play winless Ateneo de Manila University in their last game while UST will face the University of the Philippines (5-8).
