Blue and white remained the color of dominance on the smashcourts as Ateneo de Manila University aced separate assignments over the week to move on the verge of sweeping the eliminations of the 76th UAAP men's and women's badminton tournament.
The Lady Eagles blanked National University (NU), 5-0, while their male counterparts conceded only a game en route to a 4-1 ripping of Far Eastern University (FEU) last Wednesday as Ateneo churned out identical 6-0 slates in both men’s and women’s divisions.
NU stayed behind the Eagles in the men’s draw, outclassing University of the East (UE), 4-1, to fashion a 5-1 record. The Lady Tamaraws also carried the same 5-1 card after nipping UE, 3-2, last Wednesday at the Jumpsmash Courts in Quezon City.
De La Salle University wound up at 4-2 after posting contrasting results in the men’s and women’s divisions, respectively last Wednesday. The Lady Archers toppled University of the Philippines (UP), 4-1, to offset the Archers’ 2-3 loss to the Maroons.
UP and University of Santo Tomas (UST) matched La Salle’s 4-2 record. The Tigers trounced Adamson University, 4-1, while the Lady Maroons booked the same card despite losing to La Salle.
In other women’s matches, UST escaped Adamson, 3-2, to go up at 3-3.
Rounding up the women’s standings are UE (2-4) and Adamson and NU with similar 0-6 ledgers, respectively.
Meanwhile, UP (3-3), FEU (2-4), Adamson (0-6), and UE (0-6) complete the men’s standings.
