Recap: NU earns first ever Women’s Tennis crown

Defending champion National University outclassed the University of Sto. Tomas, 25-20, 25-18, 25-16 on Saturday, December 7, 2013 in the UAAP Season 76 Men’s Volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan City.
Middle blocker Peter Torres, who celebrated his 20th birthday, played a marvelous game, fnishing with 15 points including 11 spikes. Open Spiker Berlin Paglinawan and Two-time UAAP Beach Volleyball MVP Edwin Tolentino contributed 12 and 11 points apiece for the Bulldogs.
UST committed a whopping 24 unforced errors and were overmatched in the spiking department, tallying just 28 spike points while NU had 37.
NU improved to 2-0 while UST remained without a win at 0-2.
In the first game, Far Eastern University defeated Ateneo de Manila University in straight sets, 28-26, 25-21, 28-26. Veteran Karl dela Calzada topscored for the Tamaraws with 12 markers.
The Tamaraws picked up their first win of the season for a 1-1 record as the Blue Eagles suffered their first setback after coming out victorious in the first game.
