UP beats Ateneo in ‘Battle of Katipunan’

In a battle between two neighboring schools, the former champion of the league prevailed over the current champion.

The University of the Philippines scored a 1-0 victory over Ateneo de Manila University on Sunday, December 08, 2013 in their first matchup in the UAAP Season 76 Men’s Football tournament which took place at the Far Eastern University-Diliman campus.

Jinggoy Valyamor converted the lone goal for the Fighting Maroons in the 10th minute of the match.

After the win, UP improved to 2-2-0. On the other hand, the Blue Booters suffered their second loss of the season but own one victory and figured in one draw..

In the earlier contest, De La Salle University won their second straight match of the season after beating National University, 1-0. With the win, the Green Booters improved to 2 wins and 2 defeats while the Bulldogs still remained winless with 4 losses and 1 draw.

Diego Diamante was credited with the only goal of the match during the 18th minute.

UAAP Season 76 Men’s Football resumes on Friday, December 13, 2013 at the FEU-Diliman campus with the University of Sto. Tomas (1-2-1) facing the University of the East (3-1-1).
