Recap: NU earns first ever Women’s Tennis crown

Ateneo de Manila University got back on the win column after winning grueling five set match against De La Salle University, prevailing, 23-25, 25-23, 27-25, 21-25, 15-9 in the UAAP Season 76 Men’s Volleyball tournament on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Arena in San Juan City.
Mark Espejo led the way for the Blue Eagles with a massive 33 point outing with 27 points coming off spikes. The high-flying rookie from Sta. Elana High School in Marikina is currently ranked third in the league in scoring with an average of 20.3 points per contest.
With the victory, Ateneo got back to .500 with a 3-3 record while the Green Spikers suffered its fourth loss of the season against just two wins.
In the first match, the University of Sto. Tomas succeeded in beating Adamson University in five sets, winning, 25-21, 15-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-12. The league’s best scorer (23.7 PPG) Mark Alfafara once again led the way for the Tigers who improved their record to 3 wins and 3 defeats.
On the other hand, the Soaring Falcons missed out on an opportunity to seize solo third place as it also sports a 3-3 win-loss card.
