National University overcame a seven-point deficit to start the fourth period to salvage a 62-60 win against the University of Sto. Tomas in the UAAP Season 77 Women’s basketball tournament last Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the Blue Eagle Gym inside the Ateneo de Manila University campus in Quezon City.
Trixie Antiquiera and Kristine Abriam fired in 15 and 14 points respectively for the Lady Bulldogs, who lost in the Finals last year to De La Salle University. NU improved their record to two wins and no defeats while the Tigresses dropped their second straight assignment.
Meanwhile, the defending champion De La Salle Lady Archers followed up their opening day win with a 50-42 triumph over Adamson University. La Salle matched NU’s record at 2-0 as the Lady Falcons remained winless at 0-2.
The other two matches saw the University of the East beat the University of the Philippines, 58-47 and Ateneo de Manila University successfully defending home court with a hard-fought 58-55 victory over Far Eastern University.
Because of the win, Ateneo joins DLSU and NU at the top of the standings with identical 2-0 records while FEU and UE fell behind with 1-1 win-loss cards. UP was also left without a win at 0-2.
