Preview: La Salle eyes 4th straight win vs Madrid-less UP

De La Salle University crushed the University of the Philippines 66-31 in the UAAP Season 77 Women’s basketball tournament on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the Blue Eagle Gym inside the Ateneo de Manila University campus in Quezon City. It was the third straight victory in as many games for the defending champions.
Alyanna Ong topscored for the Lady Archers with 11 points while Steph Vergara chipped in with 10 points. Because of the loss, the Lady Maroons were relegated to the bottom of the team standings with a 0-3 win-loss card.
After suffering two straight losses, the University of Sto. Tomas finally emerged on top as they edged Ateneo, 55-54. Jen Angeles fired in 14 points to lead the way for the Tigresses while starting center Maica Cortes tallied a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
UST improved their record to 1-2 while the Lady Eagles tasted their first loss in three games
Adamson University also picked up their first victory in the tournament by prevailing over Far Eastern University, 48-47. The Lady Falcons and the Lady Tamaraws now sport identical 1-2 records.
Meanwhile, the matchup between the University of the East (1-1) and National University (2-0) was suspended due to the moisture on the flooring of the basketball court at the Blue Eagle Gym.The game was scheduled at 9:00 A.M. and actually went underway before being called off shortly after with the Lady Bulldogs leading the Lady Warriors, 6-3.
