Lady Falcons now 6-0 in beach volleyball

By Anthony Divinagracia Posted Sep 9th 2013

The Lady Falcons jacked up their sixth straight victory to move on the verge of sweeping the tournament.

One more win.

Season host Adamson University moved on the verge of sweeping the eliminations Sunday as the Lady Falcons jacked up their sixth straight win in the 76th UAAP women’s beach volleyball tournament at the University of the East (UE) Caloocan sandcourts

The do-it-all tandem of Sheila Pineda and Amanda Villanueva used a vast repertoire of hits coupled with unrelenting floor defense to brush off the taller National University (NU) duo of Dindin Santiago and Mina Aganon, 21-8, 21-15, for a perfect 6-0 card heading into their showdown with second-running University of Santo Tomas (UST).

UST also got a piece of the limelight as Maru Banaticla and Pam Lastimosa out-steadied the UE pair of tripped Krysel Cueva and Jessica Paron, 21-13, 21-19, to improve at 5-1.

A victory by the Lady Falcons over the Tigresses will automatically put them in the Finals with an imposing thrice-to-beat edge.

Checking in third is Ateneo de Manila University, which only bowed to Adamson so far and handed UST its lone defeat. Alyssa Valdez and Bea Tan climbed to 4-1 after plastering still winless University of the Philippines, 21-11, 21-10.

De La Salle University’s Kim Fajardo and Cienne Cruz remained at fourth place despite trouncing Bernadeth Pons and Kyla Atienza of Far Eastern University, 23-21, 21-9.

In the men’s division, NU matched the Lady Falcons’ 6-0 record with a 21-16, 21-14 drubbing of UST to fuel its own sweep bid.
