National University kicked off its title defense in style by dominating De La Salle University in straight sets, winning, 25-16, 25-15, 25-20 on the opening day of the UAAP Season 76 Men’s Volleyball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
Last year’s Finals MVP, Peter Torres and two-time UAAP Beach Volleyball MVP, Edwin Tolentino tallied 11 points apiece to pace the Bulldogs. Open spiker Berlin Paglinawan also played a splendid game as he finished with 10 markers for NU.
The Green Spikers were led by fourth year player Red Christensen who scattered 8 points in a losing effort.
In the second matchup, Adamson University’s Michael Sudaria exploded for 26 points to lead the Soaring Falcons to a 3-1 victory over Far Eastern University. The set scores were as follows: 23-25, 26-24, 25-21, 25-21.
