Losers in their first game, University of the Phiilippines and Adamson University collide in the 76th UAAP women's volleyball tournament at 2:00pm on Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Parading a rookie and sophomore-studded lineup, the Lady Maroons gallantly fought University of Santo Tomas in four grueling sets, but eventually fell to defeat.
Second-year middle spiker Kathy Bersola and rookie Nika Ong dished out impressive outings, scoring 13 and 10 points, respectively for coach Jerry Yee, who also made his UAAP debut.
On the other hand, the Lady Falcons got swept by De La Salle University last Sunday, as the Lady Spikers' vaunted defense repeatedly denied the San Marcelino-based squad's attacks.
Star spiker Shiela Pineda struggled in the loss, connecting on only 10 of 39 spike attempts against the La Salle crew that had 13 killed blocks.
It was Mandy Villanueva who delivered for Adamson as the petite spiker pierced through the Lady Spikers' defense to finish with a team-high 15 markers.
Up against a tall but inexperienced UP frontline, Villanueva and Pineda, together with Mayette Zapanta, are tipped to bring their offensive firepower anew as the Lady Falcons attempt to score their first win.
The game will air live over Studio 23, BALLS HD 167 and uaapsports.tv with a same day replay at 9 p.m. on BALLS SkyCable channel 34/ Destiny Cable channel 36.
