Tigresses, Lady Warriors clash

By Anthony Divinagracia Posted Dec 14th 2013

The Tigresses (1-1) gun for their second victory against the Lady Warriors, who are raring to barge into the win column after a 0-2 start, at 2 p.m.

University of Santo Tomas (UST) hopes to regain its winning form today as the Tigresses battle still winless University of the East (UE) in the 76th UAAP women's volleyball tournament at the San Juan Arena.

The Tigresses (1-1) gun for their second victory against the Lady Warriors, who are raring to barge into the win column after a 0-2 start, at 2 p.m.

A win by the Tigresses puts UST in a provisional three-way logjam with idle National University (NU) and Far Eastern University (FEU) at 2-1. UE on the other hand seeks to avoid tying University of the Philippines deeper into the cellar ar 0-3.

Last Sunday, the Tigresses missed their chance of going 2-0 after dropping a lopsided 8-25, 25-27, 13-25 result to three-peat champion De La Salle University.

Mela Tunay led UST's anemic offense with a measly ten points while the rest struggled to pump blood and energy to the Tigresses' lackadisical game.

With Tunay getting sporadic contributions from Pam Lastimosa, Jem Gutierrez, and Marivic Meneses, the Tigresses yielded a 25-39 hit advantage to the Lady Spikers.

UE for its part is coming off a 14-25, 22-25, 22-25 loss to NU last Saturday.

For the Lady Warriors to get win no.1, UE must exhibit a balanced attack with better floor defense.

Doing so, UE should involve not just skipper Sarina Bulan and the other veterans in the flow of things but also the rest of the Lady Warriors.

The game will air live on Studio 23, BALLS HD 167 and uaapsports.tv with a same day replay at 8 p.m. on BALLS SkyCable channel 34/ Destiny Cable channel 36.
