Adamson blanks erratic UST

By Josiah Albelda Posted Dec 18th 2013

The Adamson Lady Falcons soared past the UST Tigresses in straight sets to force a three-way tie for fourth place.

University of Santo Tomas would bring more questions than answers into the holidays.

The Tigresses fell flat against Adamson University, who ran away with a 25-21, 25-18, 25-18 win in the last 2013 game of the 76th UAAP women's volleyball tournament Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

What was expected to be a war of attrition turned into a laugher as the Lady Falcons gamely took advantage of UST's 28 unforced errors to even their record at 2-2.

Virtually absent in their last loss, Mandy Villanueva and Mayette Zapanta stepped up to the plate, drilling 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Shiela Pineda top scored with 13 and six digs.

Both teams struggled with their attacks, with Adamson connecting on 24.6% and the Tigresses finishing with a 21.6% clip.

However, the errors proved to be the difference, as the Lady Falcons limited their miscues to 13 for the match to send their victims to their second defeat in four outings.

Pam Lastimosa led UST with 12 points, but Mela Tunay struggled with just six and birthday girl Jessey de Leon could only muster three markers.

The loss erased what was a splendid game from setter Loren Lantin, who finished with five blocks on top of 17 excellent sets.
