Recap: NU earns first ever Women’s Tennis crown

Last year’s runner-up Far Eastern University avoided suffering a major upset as they trailed the University of the East two sets to none in their first round matchup in the UAAP Season 76 Men’s Volleyball tournament on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at the Arena in San Juan City. The set scoring went as follows: 23-25, 18-25, 25-18, 25-22, 15-10.
Team Captain Karl dela Calzada fired in a game-high 23 points to lead the Tamaraws to the comeback victory.
FEU took solo second place in the team standing with a 3-1 record while UE remained winless at 0-4.
In the other match, the University of Sto. Tomas prevailed over De La Salle University, 25-21, 25-18, 20-25, 17-25, 15-6.
Last year’s co-MVP, Thirdy Alfafara exploded for 32 points to power the Growling Tigers to the win.
UST picked up their second straight win after losing their first two games of the season for a 2-2 record. On the other hand, the Green Spikers absorbed their third loss of the season in four games.
