Four-peat seeking Adamson University notched another milestone Wednesday while keeping its unblemished record intact in the 76th UAAP softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
The Lady Falcons blanked University of the Philippines (UP), 7-0, to grab their fifth straight win and 39th consecutive victory dating back from the 2010 season.
Analie Benjamen flagged a one-hitter while fellow veteran slugger Luzviminda Embudo issued a two-run double in the third inning to light up the charts for the Lady Falcons, who did not score in the first two frames.
Embudo scored Queenie Sabobo with a base hit to left before Lorna Adorable crossed the plate in the ensuing play. Benjamen then put Embudo home with a single to give Adamson a commanding 3-0 lead.
Defensively, Benjamen also flourished on the mound, retiring five UP batters to keep the Lady Maroons off the grid and wrap up the match in the fifth inning via the mercy rule.
In other matches, University of Santo Tomas (UST) demolished National University (NU), 12-5, to clinch solo second with a 4-1 card.
UST fuelled its breakaway with a three-run onslaught in the third inning behind pitcher Mallows Garde, Kristine Lacupa, and Angelique Benjamin.
NU, last season’s runner-up, dropped to 3-2. University of the East (UE) meanwhile tied UP for fourth place at 2-3 after trouncing De La Salle University, 16-7.
La Salle fell deep into the cellar at 1-5 behind Ateneo de Manila University which holds a 1-4 record.
