Will University of the Philippines sweep their ‘championship’ series?
Or will Adamson University light a bonfire in San Marcelino tonight?
The Fighting Maroons and the Soaring Falcons take center stage Tuesday in the final elimination round game of the 77th UAAP men’s basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum.
UP drew first blood last August, with a 77-64 victory that ended a 27-game losing skid and even elicited a bonfire celebration in Diliman.
That win, however, didn’t happen again as the Maroons fell to six straight losses to fall to 1-12 after a string of close shaves against powerhouse teams.
On the other hand, Adamson remains the lone winless team in the league and even though they were able to come close at times, the gulf of talent has been pretty obvious for the rookie-laden squad.
Coach Kenneth Duremdes, though, is happy that the Falcons have been giving it their all in a bid to finally end a dry spell. The PBA legend also knows that given a few more games, Adamson could be ripe for contention.
“Kung may third round pa sana. Kaso hanggang second round lang e,” Duremdes said in jest of the improvement he has seen from the Falcons over their last outings. “Kahit naman talo kami, maganda na yung nilalaro namin compared sa first round.”
Mikee Reyes and JR Gallarza spearhead UP’s attack, even as Don Trollano and Jansen Rios hope to bid their UAAP careers goodbye on a positive note.
The game will air live on ABS-CBN Sports+Action channel 23, BALLS HD SkyCable 167, uaapsports.tv, iwantv.com.ph, TFC Bro and tfc.tv with a replay on Wednesday at 11 p.m. on BALLS SkyCable channel 34/ Destiny Cable channel 36.
